Original lithograph in black ink on wove paper by Pablo Picasso. Crayon on lithograph paper transferred to the stone. Titled: L’Ecuyere (the Horsewoman), the image shows a woman on horseback performing at the circus. A clown with a whip stands looking on. Published in 1960 from an edition of 1,000 signed in the stone. (There are also 200 impressions that were hand signed and numbered.) Created by Picasso to help out the Patriot newspaper in Nice. Framed in a modern black wood frame. Matted in white acid-free matting and covered with acrylic. Purchased framed at auction. Not examined apart from the frame. Laid down to backing. The original framer used a razor blade to slit the surface (X shape) near the rider’s right arm, likely to remove an air bubble. Slits visible only on close inspection (see the closeup photo).
