Jane Avril (1896) Color Lithograph after
Toulouse-Lautrec Color lithograph
on wove paper after Toulouse-Lautrec. From the 1896 Affiches Illustrees version of this famous Lautrec poster. A fine example in red, yellow, olive, and black. An image Jane Avril, of one of Lautrec's
favorite Montmartre dancers and closest friends.
Transcribed in 1896 from
Lautrec's 1893 full size poster designed to publicize the famous dancer Jane Avril at Jardin de Paris. The original
poster was one of several of Lautrec's posters that charted a bold new direction in posters and was very popular in Paris.
In this scene, Jane Avril is performing a popular dance considered by some at the time to be vulgar. This image was published
in the monthly series Les Affiches Illustrees, a collection of small format poster images for collectors. This series
was published in 1896 by Imprimerie Chaix and printed by Imprimerie Eugene Verneau in Paris. Edition Size is 1,025.
