Original watercolor painting on paper over thin card stock by Jean-Louis Forain. Signed by the artist lower right in pencil. The image is of a young dancer in her dressing room getting ready for a performance. A dresser is standing behind the dancer helping her. A nice example from this important Impressionist era artist, portraying one of his most popular themes, dancers in Paris.
Jean-Louis Forain was one of the most important artists in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His friend Degas got him interested in ballet and its dancers and patrons as subjects for his art.
